The Novel Hermit

daydreaming about books

Monthly Recap

MONTHLY RECAP | October 2014

October 31, 2014 Comments : 6

october

It’s almost the end of the year. :o Where had the time go?

  • I received a few books from publishers. That was the exciting thing! (Specifically A Thousand Pieces of You and The Walls Around Us.)
  • Becky Albertalli is one of the sweetest authors I’ve interacted with on Twitter. I’m even more excited to read her debut novel.
  • I sent my first EW e-ARC request. Eeeeek. I was scared, but once I received an answer (which was a “yes, you can totally read this”), I was itching to request more books.
  • I got my Netgalley ratio up, so I’m extremely excited about that. I need to read and review one more book until I’m at the average ratio. And once I get up to that, I’m gonna request We Are Pirates! *cross my fingers*
  • I bought design deals from Design Cuts and Deal Jumbo that were too amazing to pass up. (My wallet weeps in sadness.)
  • I had a design breakthrough and name change awesomeness for that super top secret project.
  • Leighton Meester’s album is the best everrrrrrr. You should go listen to it because oh my god, all the songs are frickin’ amazing. There’s not one song that I don’t love. It’s so perfect. GO. LISTEN. TO. IT.

ON THE BLOG

Unlucky number 13! :D

  • I reviewed:
    • When Did You See Her Last? (All The Wrong Questions #2) by Lemony Snicket. Be still my heart, Lemony Snicket. He’s on the case of a missing girl!
    • Every Breath by Ellie Marney, which was amazing. Nikki, you were not wrong when you said it’s awesome.
  • I talked about:
    • how recommending books is not for me. I worry too much about my recommendations because I want people to love it and I don’t want to be disappointed if they don’t.
    • the cover differences of My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga. (This was before the new cover came out.)
    • the different book covers with ferris wheels on it. Fun fact: Never been on a ferris wheel.
    • the spooky books I’ve read over the years. I realize I don’t read a lot since I get scared easily.
  • I listed the top ten movies I watch to get into the Halloween spirit. Most are not really scary. Just the way I like it. ;D
  • I wrote letters to:
    • Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. I NEED THIS BOOK. Everything about it screams CEE NEEDS THIS.
    • A Wall Around Us, which I luckily managed to receive a copy!
    • the characters in The Turn of the Screw, telling them how they scared me.
  • If you missed my font posts, check them out here: {21}
  • NaNoWriMo will begin soon! Are you ready? Charlotte and I discuss our projects and the crying that will happen.

I totally didn’t know Leighton Meester has an album out but oh my gosh, I am sooo excited to listen to it now. I love her! Also, I seriously need to work on actually reading the books I get through Netgalley. I don’t love reading on my Kobo but I really need to if I’m going to get my stats up. Hope you have a lovely November!
