ABOUT CEE |
---|
I am Cee, one of your host for this event as well as the blog owner of The Novel Hermit. Things you need to know about me: I’m a lover of books, comic books, covers, typography, endpapers, found families, heists, tragic high society parties, grumpy face Sebastian Stan, Eyebrow King Lee Pace, tacos, and plenty of other stuff I can’t remember at the moment. If you need a comic rec or a font sleuth, I’m your gal.
I’m so pumped, so let’s answer some questions!
- How did you come up with your blog name?
Everybody knows coming up with a name that defines who you are and your blog is a tough thing to do. I wanted a name that would perfectly embody me, and The Novel Hermit was what I came up with. I’m a reader who loved all novels and a person who preferred to stay indoors with a good book like a hermit.
- What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?
Beside reviews, you will find a lot of posts about book covers like cover changes and themes, typography showcase, letters to authors and to books, and discussions about comic books.
- Best blogging experience so far?
Oh boy, so many has happened during the past three years I’ve been blogging. Of course, the best would have to be finding sooo many awesome friends who share the same interests as me. I wouldn’t trade all the friendships I made in this community.
Some of my best blogging experiences consist of being able to meet some of my favorite authors like Patrick Ness and Rachel Hawkins, and getting to talk with authors and comic writers about their work.
- Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2016!
-
- The Great American Whatever by Tim Federle (It’s gonna be funny and emotional. I always look forward to Tim Federle’s writing!)
- Some Kind of Happiness by Claire Legrand (I love Claire’s MG works, they’re so unexpected, and I love that.)
- This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab (Everything Victoria writes is gold. Plus, who wouldn’t want to read this “Sin City + Romeo and Juliet – romance + monsters”?)
- Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee (San Francisco Earthquake + Chinese American teenager + boarding school = hells yeah.)
- Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies by Lindsay Ribar (Twin Peaks and The Lynburn Legacy association is always a winner in my book.)
- What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
More Than This! You should read this post for why it’s the best book ever and why you should read it!
- Who would you recruit for your apocalypse crew? (5 characters max)
I thought about it long and hard, and I’ve decided these five characters are who I want to recruit for my apocalypse crew:
- Kami Glass (The Lynburn Legacy): witty lady with a plan. She’d be the perfect leader of my crew. She has dealt with the Lynburns; An apocalypse should be no problem.
- Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows): super stealthy, fast, and can wield knives like a boss. She’d be awesome to have when you’re scavenging for food or items without gaining unwanted attention.
- Dinah Lance (Black Canary): tactician and exceptionally skilled in all forms of martial arts. She can pretty much wield any weapons given to her, and she’ll be able to plan attacks and help defend my little crew.
- Gwendolyn (Saga): Can speak different languages and can fight with a staff. She has a pendant that allows her to speak and understand different types of languages which would be great to have when encountering all types of people. She can fight as well.
- Mark Watney (The Martian): my very own MacGyver who can solve problems by making things out of ordinary objects. Watney was stranded on Mars, and had to fend for himself to survive with unlikely items to his disposal. He’ll be able to figure out what we can eat and how to make deadly weapons from simplest items.
We’ll survive! These ladies (and one dude) are a force to be reckon with. I’d feel slightly relieved to have them on my side when the apocalypse hit.
(I didn’t include people with superhuman powers like with healing powers or super strength because I felt that would be cheating a bit and it would be difficult to narrow it down.)
- Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?
Mackenzi Lee! I just want her to regal me tales of fabulous women throughout history. She speaks to my every likes, and how can I not get along with her? She’s wonderfulllllll.

I love your team for the apocalypse! They all sound wicked reliable. My crew consists of Aelin from Throne of Glass, Juliette from Shatter Me, Vin from the Mistborn trilogy, and Hermione from Harry Potter. Honestly, all kick-butt ladies of various kinds because, let’s be real, I’ll be the one hiding in the back while they handle the tough stuff.
I’m wicked excited for Loveathon! It’s my first time participating, so I’m excited to visit as many people’s blogs and stuff as I can!
Jaz says
Ohmygosh I definitely need to be visiting your blog more often Cee I feel like you’re my person. I freaking love typography and endpapers and I’ve been getting into comics more often (and been coming to you for recs).
I’m reading The Martian right now and can totally see why Mark Watney is on your crew!
Also did you get a new blog theme? IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL. I love the waves.
Amber @ Book Stacks Amber says
I put Mark on my apocalypse crew too! I figured if he can survive on another planet alone for that long, surely he can help me survive the end of the world.
Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts says
I loved the voice in The Great American Whatever–it was my first book by Federle and it was such a seamless read! (Side story: although it was pegged as a Holden Caulfield for this current generation, I didn’t hate the protagonist as much as I loathe HC in Catcher in the Rye LOL.) I also had Inej in my apocalypse squad because I was low key expecting it to be a zombie-end-of-the-world…
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.
Kaitlin Michelle says
I am so excited for loveathon! I cheated and put some magical people on my apocalypse crew! LOL
Tanya Patrice says
I’m not participating this time around, but reading and commenting on lots of posts! Your apocalypse team looks awesome – and made me want to go read the books I haven’t touched yet!
Hannie Bee says
I mostly signed up for love-a-thon to find tons of other book-loving people to follow! I’m constantly looking for new book recommendations to add to my TBR!
alexandra @ twirlingpages says
you managed to convince me to buy the UK edition of TROUJLH and i wouldn’t be surprised if you managed to convince me to get another patrick ness book hahaha. also, INEJ!!!!
Hazel @ Stay Bookish says
I haven’t read anything by Claire LeGrand yet but I’m so intrigued and excited about her MG book! And your apocalypse crew is SO badass, Cee! I wish you answered the DJ question because I adore your music tastes, especially since finding your music to my year post! :) Honored to be co-hosts with you, Mel and Alexa. Let’s rock this Loveathon, yes? <3
Lillian says
1. SEBASTIAN STAN FOREVER
2. I have been an admirer of your feature “You’re Just My Type” since it’s debut. I AM THAT SILENT READER.
3. Someone keeps borrowing The Martian at my library. How rude =P
4. LEE PACE. YOU GOT ME INTO PUSHING DIASIES AFTER YOUR INFINITE TWEETS ABOUT IT.
5. I can’t wait for the twitter chats! You, Alexa, Hazel and Mel will ROCK this event! <3
Mishma @ Chasing Faerytales says
IT’S AWESOME THAT YOU LOVE TYPOGRAPHY!!! I have recently started to fall in love with lettering, and I am hoarding fonts! They’re so fascinating!!!
THIS SAVAGE SONG!!! I am dying to read the book! *flails*
Inej would be a terrific crew member! In fact the whole crew of Six of Crows would be glorious companions! Personally, I would prefer Kaz though! :D
Thanks a lot for hosting Cee! I loved the event last year, and I am so excited for this round!
irena_bookdustmagic says
More Then This is actually pretty popuar in my country, even though it is still not translated. I feel like everyone who reads in English here has already read it, except me.
It is so awesome you got to meet your favorite authors! :)
Rebecca @ Reading Wishes says
I’m so excited for THE GREAT AMERICAN WHATEVER, too! It sounds so awesome, can’t wait for it to release next month! I have More Than This on my shelf & everyone seems to love it. Will pick it up when I have the strength to be destroyed. Which lets be honest, is never. But I will read it, promise!
Jackie says
Cee, you always find and recommend the most intriguing books. I’ve seen Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies mentioned on your blog before, and I already know I NEED to check it out (it had me at Twin Peaks!), but now I must check out Outrun the Moon too.
Amanda says
Thanks for hosting this years Loveathon, I’m loving it so far. So many fab readers and bloggers to meet and new ones to follow. Great idea to have the list of everyone here so I can visit as many blogs as possible.
Happy Loveathon.
Amanda. @chocolate_pages
Kristin says
I love Dinah Lance! I wish they would’ve taken her character in a more loyal direction on Arrow. She’s always been one of my favorites and I’m sad her solo ongoing got cancelled by DC :-( She’ll probably show up in Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1 though!! Also, I cannot wait for This Savage Song!!
Natalia says
Love your 5 anticipated book list :)
Karen Blue says
I love this thon! Such a great idea. I love your team for the apocalypse. I would need Katniss (THG), Kaz (six of crows), Adelina (The Young Elites), Aelin & Rowan (Queen of Shadows). I am not sure how they would work together, but probably Katniss would keep them in line.
Shelly says
OMG you got to meet Patrick Ness?? How awesome! I’ll go through all the participants now, whee!
tonyalee says
Nice to meet you!!
I actually haven’t read ANY of the books you mentioned for your apocalypse team!
Mel@thedailyprophecy says
I think we all love to stay inside to read a good book. I always love your blog name
AND I’M SO EXCITED TO HOST THIS EVENT WITH YOU GUYS.
Becca@The Bookkeeper's Apprentice says
I’m so excited for my first LoveaThon! I too really like staying inside and reading a good book :)
Bruna says
Your apocalypse crew made me really curious to read those books! Especially The Martian which has been on my TBR for a while now.
Oh, and I love your book cover posts – I’m addicted to pretty covers as well!
Kelly says
I really like your cover commentaries! I hadn’t heard about Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies, but it sounds neat! *Adds yet another book to the TBR list.*
Alexa S. says
I still need to read books from Claire LeGrand and Patrick Ness! I know how much you love both these authors, and it’s always the first thing I think about whenever I see one of their books ;) And I loved getting to know you a little bit better through your post! I particularly appreciated your apocalypse squad, and how you’d include Kami and Inej. They’re two of my favorite female characters in YA! And I’m happy you’re co-hosting this event!! <3
Stephanie @ My Bookish Itinerary says
Hi Cee! I enjoyed reading your answers. I am really excited for This Savage Song too. Victoria Schwab is an awesome writer! I haven’t read any of the books/comics that your apocalypse team characters are from, but it sounds like they would be an awesome crew!
Stephanie @ My Bookish Itinerary
Wendy @ Book Scents says
I almost said Inej too for my apocalypse squad but said Kaz instead for his smarts and planning abilities. Maybe we can join squads! haha.
TrishaJenn says
I LOVE that you included Mark Watney on your apocalypse team. He’s amazing! He’s an interesting, smart, hilarious character. I think he would be both super helpful with the science side of things AND just boosting your spirits when you start to get down about the world ending.
Emily @ Loony Literate says
OH MY GOSH I love that so many people have signed up for this <3 <3 Makes me v happy. And getting to know all the different bloggers is a lot of fun. Thanks for hosting!!
Alice @ Arctic Books says
I adore this community because it’s so great to have something so amazing in common, and meeting other bloggers is just quite fantastic. I’m so happy that this event exists, so thank you for hosting!
Annalisse says

Elle says
Cee, it has been so nice meeting and chatting with you on Twitter and exploring your blog! I’ve met so many amazing new book bloggers thanks to Love-A-Thon and the online book community. I’m looking forward to next year’s event already!
Amber, the Blonde Writer says
Oh I didn’t even think of Inej for the squad (that was the one question I didn’t answer lol). But basically, anyone from Six of Crows would be perfect to have on any team.
Geraldine @ Corralling Books says
Mark Watney is a great pick – he is a survivor! :)
Your blog name is so cool – I love how your blog design also goes along with it :)
