from panel to panel

I love comics and graphic novels, so what do I do with that love? Well, I turn it into a new feature!

From Panel to Panel is a new feature where I talk about the awesome (and perhaps not-so awesome) comic books and graphic novels I’ve read. Basically, this will be me pushing them onto your laps. You’re welcome.

From the Green Arrow Rebirth (which has my queen Black Canary) to the charming Han Solo written by the awesome Marjorie Liu, January has plentiful of comics I’m dying to get my hands on!

Get your shopping carts loaded with all these comics!

GREEN ARROW • VOL. 1 THE DEATH & LIFE OF OLIVER QUEEN

By day he’s Oliver Queen, playboy socialite, CEO of Queen Industries and philanthropic do-gooder. But at night he patrols the streets of Seattle, where he champions the oppressed as a true social justice warrior. He is Green Arrow.

But how can you fight the man when you are the man? That’s the question left with Oliver after an electric, love-at-first-sight encounter with Black Canary, the superhero rock star who challenges everything he thought he knew about protecting the innocent. As if that weren’t enough, a sinister organization with ties to his nearest and dearest prepares to tear down Oliver’s financial empire, destroy his family’s legacy and end his life.

Without fortune or friends, can Green Arrow defeat this unholy alliance of traitors? Or has death finally caught up with Oliver Queen?

Discover the shocking answers in GREEN ARROW VOL. 1: THE DEATH AND LIFE OF OLIVER QUEEN, the surprise hit series from writer BENJAMIN PERCY (TEEN TITANS), gorgeously illustrated by OTTO SCHMIDT (Korvac Saga) and JUAN FERREYRA (NEW SUICIDE SQUAD) and exploding from the blockbuster DC Universe Rebirth event! Collects GREEN ARROW: REBIRTH #1 and GREEN ARROW #1-5. — DC Comics

Publication date: January 4, 2017 by DC Comics

Buy: LCBS · Amazon · Barnes & Noble · The Book Depository · Indigo · Comixology

Why I’m excited: Although I am not the biggest fan of Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, I can’t help but want to read this comic because of Black Canary. Any comics with Black Canary, I immediately need it in my life. (I love that her past as a superhero rock star is carried into this comic.) Also, I heard excellent things about the writing, and that it’s best of the Rebirth stories.

STAR WARS: HAN SOLO

Everyone’s favorite scoundrel goes Solo! Han is given a top-secret undercover mission for the Rebellion: rescuing several informants and spies! His cover for the assignment? Only the biggest and most infamous starship race in the galaxy, the Dragon Void! A tournament he has dreamt of winning his entire life. With a chance of glory, can Han keep his mind on the mission? Or is failing Leia worse than losing? If that wasn’t enough, there’s also the small matter of finding a traitor within the Rebellion. As the Dragon Void heats up, can a certain Wookiee pal lend a hand in the mole hunt? Place your bets for the ultimate space race! Our money’s on Han and the Millennium Falcon – after all, it’s the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs!

Written by Marjorie Liu, Star Wars: Han Solo collects issues #1-5. — Marvel Comics

Publication date: January 4, 2017 by Marvel Comics

Buy: LCBS · Amazon · Barnes & Noble · The Book Depository · Indigo · Comixology

Why I’m excited: It’s everybody’s favorite scoundrel, Han Solo! Also, Marjorie Liu, who writes Monstress, is writing Han Solo, so you know the story will completely blow you out of the water. We get to see what’s going on in Han Solo’s head.

BLACK PANTHER • A NATION UNDER OUR FEET BOOK TWO

Dark times for the Black Panther, as Ta-Nehisi Coates chronicles the final days of the kingdom of Wakanda! As Zenzi and the People poison Wakanda’s populace against their king, a cabal of nation-breakers is assembled. With few allies of his own to call on, T’Challa must rely on his elite secret police, the Hatut Zeraze -and fellow Avenger Eden Fesi, a.k.a. Manifold! Meanwhile, Shuri’s spirit journeys through the Djalia…but what awaits her there? The blockbuster reinvigoration of the Black Panther continues!

Collects issues #5-8. — Marvel Comics

Publication date: January 11, 2017 by Marvel Comics

Why I’m excited: Book Two of the acclaimed Black Panther comic is here! Yeeeesssss.

THE FLASH • VOL. 1: LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE

His name is Barry Allen, and he’s the Fastest Man Alive. But he’s also so much more.

As he learns more about the Speed Force that fuels his incredible powers, the Flash is also discovering secrets about his past beyond anything he’d ever dreamed—how he created a Flashpoint that changed history and helped create a new world, watched over by forces unknown.

And when the same Speed Force that flows through him is unleashed all over Central City, striking cops, criminals and ordinary civilians alike, it’s up to the Flash to train this new wave of speedsters to use their amazing abilities wisely.

But while some may become his partners in crime-fighting—forming a true “Speed Force”—others will use their godlike powers for a more sinister purpose. And the Flash is about to learn that there’s some evil even he can’t outrun…

The race is on as writer Joshua Williamson (DEATHSTROKE) and artist Carmine di Giandomenico (All New X-Factor) present THE FLASH VOL. 1: LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE—the starting line of a bold new era for the Scarlet Speedster, bursting from the blockbuster DC Universe Rebirth event! Collects THE FLASH: REBIRTH #1 and THE FLASH #1-8. – DC Comics

Publication date: January 18, 2017 by DC Comics

Buy: LCBS · Amazon · Barnes & Noble · The Book Depository · Indigo · Comixology

Why I’m excited: I don’t know too much about The Flash, in terms of in the comicverse, and this comic may be a good jumping off point in getting to know about Barry Allen.

SCARLET WITCH • VOL. 2: WORLD OF WITHCRAFT

Wanda Maximoff ‘s magical mystery tour continues! On the streets of Paris, she will find the broken hearted hero Le Peregrine. Can Wanda mend his broken wings and help him soar again? She’ll risk life and limb to try! Next stop, Hong Kong, where an ancient warlock named the Dark Tongi has taken a powerful hold. Wanda must seek the help of a young witch, known as the Wu – but she has her own battle to fight! The former Avenger’s personal journey gets reflective as she explores her early memories and attempts to reconcile the sins of her past, but it’s time for a family reunion with her twin brother Pietro! He seeks her aid in the superhuman Civil War…but what happens when the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are on opposing sides?

Collects issues #6-10. – Marvel Comics

Publication date: January 18, 2017 by Marvel Comics

Buy: LCBS · Amazon · Barnes & Noble · The Book Depository · Indigo · Comixology

Why I’m excited: More Wanda Maximoff? BIG THUMBS UP. Although I haven’t read the first volume, I’m nonetheless excited for the second volume because of the different artists that are featured in this book—specifically Tula Lotay and Annie Wu!!

NIGHTWING • VOL. 1: BETTER THAN BATMAN

He was the first Robin—and a replacement Batman. He was a superspy—and a dead man. Now, after going underground and around the world in a battle to reclaim the secret identity that was stolen from him, Dick Grayson is going back to Gotham as his own man, his own hero: Nightwing!

But stepping back into his old life isn’t as easy as putting on his familiar black and blue costume. Not when his former boss, Batman, insists he should work solo. Not when he’s trying to rekindle a romance with Barbara Gordon, a.k.a. Batgirl, who’s got a life and crime-fighting career of her own. When a mysterious masked man called Raptor swoops in, claiming to be an ally but looking every bit the enemy, Nightwing must join forces with Raptor to take down Parliament of Owls, the all-powerful criminal conspiracy that’s left its nest in Gotham City and is spreading its wings around the world.

To pull it all off, Nightwing must be more than equal to his mentor.

He’s got to be better.

NIGHTWING VOLUME 1: BETTER THAN BATMAN marks the return of one of the most beloved heroes in comics, from writer Tim Seeley (GRAYSON), artist Javier Fernandez (RED HOOD/ARSENAL) and colorist Chris Sotomayor (BIRDS OF PREY). This great new starting point collects NIGHTWING: REBIRTH #1 and NIGHTWING #1-4 and #7-8! – DC Comics

Publication date: January 25, 2017 by DC Comics

Buy: LCBS · Amazon · Barnes & Noble · The Book Depository · Indigo · Comixology

Why I’m excited: Dick Grayson, my favorite comic booty king. No more Robin or Spyral agent. He’s taking back his masked identity, Nightwing, up again. I’d read anything about Dick Grayson. I’m excited to see what Tim Seeley does with Dick as Nightwing.

SPECIAL MENTIONS: Grayson • Vol 5: Spyral’s End, Batgirl • Vol 3: Point Blank, Kill or Be Killed Vol 1, Green Lanterns • Vol. 1: Rage Planet
