End of the Year Book Survey | 2017 Edition

January 6, 2018 Comments : 2

At the end of the year, the End of the Year Book Survey (by Jamie @ The Perpetual Page-Turner) is posted, and it’s usually a sign to reflect back on the books I have read. Do I remember what I’ve read? Not at all. Did I even read a lot? We shall see.

Reading Stats | Best In Books | My Blogging/Bookish Life | Looking Ahead

2017 READING STATS

Number Of Books You Read: 104
Number of Re-Reads: IDK
Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary

(Not completely accurate since I forgot to count a lot of books I’ve reread nor did I count all the individual comic issues I’ve read.)

  • COMIC: The Vision Vol. 1-2
  • GENERAL LITERATURE: Sourdough + The Refrigerator Monologues
  • MIDDLE GRADE: The First Rule of Punk

Be on the look out for an in-depth post about the best books I read in 2017.

BOOKS I WAS EXCITED ABOUT & THOUGHT I WAS GONNA LOVE MORE BUT DIDN’T

If We Were Villains. (I really enjoyed it. I love the aspect of characters, who are theater kids, performing aka pretending. However, I didn’t love it as much I thought I would’ve. Maybe because it feels a bit intelligent for me?)

MOST SURPRISING (IN A GOOD WAY) BOOK I READ

Jane, Unlimited. This YA book is really eccentric. I hadn’t expected how the stories played out, and I’m still confused as to how it played out or worked, but hey, I really enjoyed it.

BOOK I “PUSHED” THE MOST PEOPLE TO READ (AND THEY DID)

A Darker Shade of Magic

It’s not a book I read this year, but I “pushed” A Darker Shade of Magic to customers at my bookstore.

BEST SERIES I STARTED

Redlands

It’s dark, it’s about witches, it’s amazing.

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR I DISCOVERED

Edgar Cantero (Meddling Kids)

I was absolutely blown away by Meddling Kids that I had to buy his debut book, The Supernatural Enhancements.

BEST BOOK FROM GENRE YOU DON’T TYPICALLY READ

Scary books are not my forte, but I couldn’t stay away because Scooby Doo homage!

BOOKS I READ IN 2017 THAT I WILL PROBABLY RE-READ NEXT YEAR

The Refrigerator Monologues

I can’t stop thinking about this book. All these angry women, yes.

MOST THOUGHT-PROVOKING/LIFE-CHANGING BOOK

BOOK YOU CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WAITED UNTIL 2017 TO READ

The Umbrella Academy + The Vision

I’ve heard many people rave about these two comic series, but I never read them until 2017, and oh wow, I totally understand why people were blown away by these comics.

FAVORITE PASSAGE/QUOTES FROM A BOOK YOU READ

N/A

BOOK THAT SHOCKED YOU THE MOST

The Refrigerator Monologues

It was really angry, and I loved it so much.

Kate Bishop & America Chavez (Hawkeye: Kate Bishop & America)

Mina & Lynet (Girls Made of Snow and Glass)

FAVORITE BOOK YOU READ IN 2017 FROM AN AUTHOR YOU’VE READ PREVIOUSLY

Sourdough by Robin Sloan

I LOVE HIS WORK.

BEST BOOK YOU READ THAT YOU READ BASED SOLEY ON A REC FROM SOMEBODY ELSE

Runaways

One of my comic valkyries raved about this series a lot, and it is just as amazing as she says it is.

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH FROM A BOOK YOU READ

Nico Minoru from Runaways (2017)

100+ books!! That’s amazing!! I’m totally jealous because I am lucky if I read 50-60 books per year– I guess I’m a slow reader compared to a lot of you guys!! Also, Meddling Kids is totally high on my list, so I’m glad you liked it :)
