TOO MUCH TBR · October 2015

too mch tbr october

Here is another Too Much TBR, but it’s the October edition!

For those who do not know, Too Much TBR is a way to help me see which books I really need to read and tackle them. Is it effective? Perhaps. It helps a lot seeing a visual of the books on my TBR pile.

October is another month I have a lot of review copies I need to get through. Will I make it out alive with all the books read? Who knows. (I certainly hope I do!)

Let’s discuss what I read last month, and what I’m reading this month!

BACK IN SEPTEMBER

This was my September TBR, and I read all but one of my priority reads (and the one I didn’t read was The Martian). They were all wonderful, which surprised me because I was sure I would not like some of the books as much as I do. And I only read one from my possible September reads, and that book was Fates and Furies, which absolutely consumed me (it comes highly recommended, especially if you like reading about married couples who are kind of like Gone Girl but nicer).

I’ve read other books not on my TBR pile like a few comics and romances, but I was still on top of things. (Though, I still need write reviews for them. Whoops.)

PRIORITY OCTOBER READS

A lot of books, right? (I’m internally crying.)

I did finish Pretending to Dance yesterday, so I technically have eight books left! Yay! I think my next read will be Newt’s Emerald, but I’m not entirely sure since I need to write a ton of reviews. I’m very excited about Illuminae and Welcome to Night Vale. I’ve heard many friends rave Illuminae, and it just makes me anxious because what if I don’t like? It would be terrible because how can I not like space + unconventional storytelling? I’ve been relistening to the Night Vale podcast, and absolutely fell in love with it, which makes me excited to finish relistening to tackle the book! (I’m not entirely sure if I will read it because I want to read it while listening to the audiobook, so I may have to wait. Hmmmm.)

I’m a bit hesitant about Future Perfect, A Madness So Discreet, and Black Widow: Forever Red because it sounds like something I’d love, but at the same time, it doesn’t. *cross my fingers it’ll be good?*

POSSIBLE OCTOBER READS

Not a lot of possible October reads I want to get to, but I’m hoping majority of these books are big winners? (Though, I’m not a big fan of Lindsay Smith’s or Ryan Graudin’s writing, so I wonder if these books will change my mind about them. Anybody read them?)

I Crawl Through It and The Weight of Feathers were on my “September Possible Reads” section, but I never got around to reading it. I do want to get to them, but I’m unsure if my schedule will allow me.

All these books here do not account for other books that may slip into my TBR list (because mood reading will probably happen) nor of the comics I will be reading. I’m sure I missed other books I want to read this month too, but since I can’t remember, it must not be priority, right? Let’s hope I make a dent in my TBR books for October!

How was your September? Tell me what’s on your October TBR list. Have you read any of the books on my lists? Or are you planning to read them?

I definitely want to read A Madness So Discreet. It sounds SO different and awesome. Also I can’t believe I haven’t read I Crawl Through it yet. I’ve been sitting on it for 4 months and A.S. King is one of my favorites ever!! So yeah, I’ll be reading that one this month too :)

I am also concerned about Illuminae, but I’m really curious too. I hope you fall in love with it! A madness so discreet is a wonderful story and will be perfect for this month. Happy reading :D

I just got Tell the Story To Its End today in the mail! I’m surprised by how tiny it is – at least that means it’ll be a quick read?

If you can, I highly recommend The Weight of Feathers :) Definitely a fantastic novel that really stuck with me after I read it.

Wow, so many books to read! I only heard about Newt’s Emerald today and I can’t help but wonder have I been in a cave? That book cover is stunning and I love Garth Nix! I will definitely be investigating soon. Very soon. And I’m excited for you to read The Martian, I really enjoyed it, but it also just made me more excited to see the film because I just know it would be easier to understand certain things by seeing it (for me at least) but it’s finding time.

I have to say, I hate looking at my TBR list because I am such a mood reader so I really struggle to force myself to read something, I just wait and see what I fancy picking up next. It means I have a wide and varied pile of books to read based on what mood I was in when shopping, I do struggle to get on top of it. Currently I’m planning on a reread of Fangirl (one of my favourite books ever) and I’m obviously going to be reading Carry On because I’ve been excited for that book to be released since forever. The rest of my October reads will be whatever takes my fancy, or whatever I have to review so will attempt to force myself to be in the mood for.

I had a decent reading month in September, though it was apparently mostly rereads of old favorites! I’m hoping to tackle more of my review books in October, since I want to have a clean slate (if I can manage it) by November. Here’s to hoping that happens!

I got Illuminae at Bookcon, so I definitely have to read that soon. I’m currently finishing up A Court of Thorns and Roses, and I started Six of Crows. I’m going to try to read a lot of the books that have been sitting on my shelf.
