(ARC) REVIEW • Wheelchair Zombies + Psychic Vampires (The Secret Life of Lincoln Jones by Wendelin Van Draanen)

[note note_color=”#d85132″ text_color=”#ffffff”]The Secret Life of Lincoln Jones by Wendelin Van Draanen • October 25, 2016 • Knopf Books for Young Readers (Random House)
Website | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | The Book Depository | Indigo | Library

My secret life is filled with psychic vampires, wheelchair zombies, chain-rattlin’ ghosts, and a one-eyed cat. But they’re nothing compared to my real-life stalker: a sixth-grade girl named Kandi Kain. . . .

Lincoln Jones is always working on the latest story he’s got going in his notebook. Those stories are his refuge. A place where the hero always prevails and the bad guy goes to jail. Real life is messy and complicated, so Lincoln sticks to fiction and keeps to himself. Which works fine until a nosy girl at his new school starts prying into his private business. She wants to know what he’s writing, where he disappears to after school, and why he never talks to anybody. . . .[/note]

2016 YA Book Cover Choice Awards! · Semi-Final Round!

November 22, 2016 Comments : 12

yabccawards2016
The YA Book Cover Choice Awards (aka YABCCAwards) aim to honor all the wonderful (and not-so wonderful) book covers that were published in the past year. It will be nominated and voted by readers (à la Goodreads Choice Awards and the *Book Shimmy* Awards) for the best cover design in each categories.
This is the moment we’ve been waiting for—the semi-finals round!

Although the turnout for the nominations round wasn’t as big as last year’s, I’m grateful to everybody who nominated book covers. You are wonderful, and you are the people that keep this cover awards going. <3

I keep forgetting how tedious it is to tally up the votes (very widespread nomination), put the images together, and create the polls. Lots of copying and pasting and cursing Illustrator for being slow. It should get easier from here…I hope.

What you find in this post are: 15 beautiful covers (that you nominated) for each category + polls.

This is a lonnnnnnnng post, so beware of scrolling. ;D (Seriously.)

And once again, we begin. Vote! And then get your friends to vote!

What You Need To Know

 • This is the semi-finals. (This will determine the eight books that will make it to the final voting.)
 • These covers are all reader nominated.
 • Vote for the cover you believe should win each category because it’s superior and prettier than the others and fits.
 • Judge base on the covers. Not what’s in the book.
 • You’re only allowed to vote for up to THREE covers once. (You can vote for one cover or two or three.)
 • DO NOT CHEAT. I will be checking the spreadsheet for suspicious activity.
 • If you click on the pictures, it will pop up a bigger image. If you want a bigger picture, click on the links in the Google Docs poll.
 • When you click on the category links below, it’ll take you directly to that category.
 • If you have questions or need clarifications, feel free to ask them and I will answer. :)
 • Voting ends Monday, November 28, 2016 11:59 PM PST.
 • Last but not least, have fun! Share this with friends and force them to vote!

SINCERELY, CEE • A letter from yours truly to Drew Brockington & CatStronauts

November 17, 2016 Comment : 1

Dear Drew Brockington & CatStronauts,
CatStronauts, you are needed!

When the world is thrust into darkness due to a global energy shortage, the Worlds Best Scientist comes up with a bold plan to set up a solar power plant on the moon. But someone has to go up there to set it up, and that adventure falls to the CatStronauts, the best space cats on the planet! Meet the fearless commander Major Meowser, brave-but-hungry pilot Waffles, genius technician and inventor Blanket, and quick thinking science officer Pom Pom on their most important mission yet!

In this graphic novel, debut author and illustrator Drew Brockington breathes life into a world populated entirely by cats, brimming with jokes, charm, science, and enough big boxes and tuna sandwiches for everyone!

In the sequel to CatStronauts: Mission Moon, your favorite elite group of cat astronauts are thrust into the space-race of the century!

Fresh off of their heroic mission to save the world, the CatStronauts–Major Meowser, Pom Pom, Blanket and Waffles–are taking a well deserved victory lap. Parades and fancy awards dinners are the new norm! But around the world, other cat space programs are watching–in particular the CosmoCats, the first cats to go to space! With national pride and scientific research on the line, the world’s space programs rush to be the first cats to Mars, and the CatStronauts are starting months behind! Can they catch up and prove their first mission was no fluke?

In this graphic novel, debut author/illustrator Drew Brockington takes the CatStronauts further than they’ve every gone, adding in mounds of jokes, charm, science, and enough yarn and scratching posts for everyone!
CATS IN SPACE. CATS AS ASTRONAUTS. HOW CUTE IS THAT?

Cats + space = two things I love. My mind was totally blown when I saw my two loves come together. I never knew I needed cats in space in my life, but ever since I’ve seen the adorable covers for the two CatStronauts graphic novels, I am in love and am in desperate need for all the space cat cuteness! Can you imagine all the cat jokes and the expected cuteness of cats on their space mission? I’m just twirling in excitement! CAAAATTTTTTS. <3 SPAAACEEEEEE. <3

Sincerely,

cee

Sloane isn’t expecting to fall in with a group of friends when she moves from New York to Florida—especially not a group of friends so intense, so in love, so all-consuming. Yet that’s exactly what happens.

Sloane becomes closest to Vera, a social-media star who lights up any room, and Gabe, Vera’s twin brother and the most serious person Sloane’s ever met. When a beloved painting by the twins’ late mother goes missing, Sloane takes on the responsibility of tracking it down, a journey that takes her across state lines—and ever deeper into the twins’ lives.[/note]
