from panel to panel

I love comics and graphic novels, so what do I do with that love? Well, I turn it into a new feature!

From Panel to Panel is a new feature where I talk about the awesome (and perhaps not-so awesome) comic books and graphic novels I’ve read. Basically, this will be me pushing them onto your laps. You’re welcome.

Oh October, you’re bringing so many awesome comics that star a lot of women. My kind of comics! ;) You get graphic novels about wondrous Mockingbird and Black Widow, sleuthing ladies, and much more!

Get your shopping carts loaded with all these comics!

Move over Nancy, Harriet, & Veronica.

There’s a new sleuth on the block! Sixteen-year-old Marigold “Goldie” Vance lives at a Florida resort with her dad, who manages the place. Her mom, who divorced her dad years ago, works as a live mermaid at a club downtown. Goldie has an insatiable curiosity, which explains her dream to one day become the hotel’s in-house detective. When Charles, the current detective, encounters a case he can’t crack, he agrees to mentor Goldie in exchange for her help solving the mystery. Eisner Award-winning writer Hope Larson (A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel) and artist Brittney Williams (Patsy Walker, A.K.A Hellcat!) present the newest gal sleuth on the block with Goldie Vance, an exciting, whodunnit adventure. — Boom! Why I’m excitedThe Wicked + The Divine series is my one true love. I’m sure you’ve seen me screaming in excitement about this comic series, and I will forever keep screaming about it! After the jaw-dropping cliffhanger of volume 3, readers will be in for a surprise: think Underworld + shit hitting the fan. And it’s wonderful. I’m trying not to keel over thinking about what goes on in this comic.

Miranda Turner never knew her sister, international supermodel Lindy Turner, was also the super-powered crime fighter The Cat. At least not until Lindy appeared in Miranda’s bedroom as a ghost, looking for help finding her own murderer. Miranda takes over her sister’s secret identity, and if Lindy’s spirit can keep her on track, this new Cat might survive long enough to solve the mystery and make the moniker her own.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Bobbi Morse, the former Avenger known as Mockingbird, goes solo! With a scientific mind and a lethal mastery of martial arts, she’s always been one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s best agents, but what happens when someone close to her is murdered? There are strange goings-on to investigate in the peacekeeping organization’s own medical-and-recovery network. But when Lance Hunter’s undercover gig at the London Hellfire Club goes south, Mockingbird sets off, battle staves at the ready, to save Hunter — and the Queen of England! From helping out a teen driven bonkers by her own new powers, to doing a little dog-sitting, Bobbi shows she’s a woman of many talents as best-selling author Chelsea Cain makes Mockingbird sing!

Why I’m excitedMockingbird gets shit done. It’s a damn shame that Marvel cancelled this wonderfully badass series and asshole trolls attacking Chelsea Cain because they are threatened by women + feminism. If you love reading women in superhero comics, you must read Mockingbird; it will give you what you always wanted and more.

They wowed you with DAREDEVIL, now the Eisner Award-winning team of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee take Black Widow to new heights — by forcing her to go on the lam! As S.H.I.E.L.D. turns on its once-greatest asset, she seeks out her own answers in a knock-down, drag-out tale of action and espionage! But the Widow’s hunt for the Weeping Lion sends her back to the one place she never wanted to go! With a little help from old friends — and old enemies lying in wait — she’ll face the new incarnation of the Red Room: the Dark Room!
