Inspired by What She Reads, Pure Imagination Blog, and Stacked.I admit I’m a book cover snob. Who isn’t though?
Book covers are the first thing that attracts readers to a book. A good cover can draw someone is, just as a bad cover can easily draw someone away. It can essentially make or break a book. Holy, Mother Cover! is where I showcase the book covers that stand out (or make me cringe) and discuss cover changes.
(A big special thanks to Georgie at What She Reads for bestowing me this fabulous name and to Charlotte at The Simple Tales for creating the beautiful feature banner you see before you.)
Remember when cassette tapes were popular?
Be prepared to get kind of nostalgic about cassette tapes (but not really). It was a big part of my childhood like most people born pre-2000s. I remember going on family roadtrips and listening to old cassette tapes my parents were force us to listen to; pulling the magnetic tape from its case just because; and watching the spools go round and round.
Thinking about cassette tapes made me wonder if it would be a popular cover trend. And voilà! These are my favorite from the small batch I could find.
TREND: Cassette Tapes
Tape • Tricked • Love Is A Mixtape
Talking To Girls About Duran Duran • Way to Go • Supergirl Mixtapes
Best cassette tape cover? Either Tricked or Way to Go. I like Tricked because of the colors and the use of the actual cassette tape. I like Way to Go because illustration awesomeness and the look of the magnetic tape coming out of the casing.

I didn’t even realize there were covers with casette tapes. I still remember these! I even for a long time had a player that could play a casette and cd’s. I think Way to Go is my favourite of these.

The only one I’ve seen before is “Supergirl Mixtapes” and I LOOOVE that the entire cover is a cassette tape! *heart eyes* I think they make for a very cool look when it comes to book covers!

I like Super Girl the best too! i used to own a bunch of cassette tapes play them while having a roadtrip as well. Back then our car is accompanied with cassette player but now, the more modern CD player has taken over haha. I guess I like CD better because it’s more long-lasting. We had those issues of broken tapes and I used to like pulling those dark tapes as well oops

I love these!!! People born in the last 15 years aren’t even going to know what a cassette tape is unless they see them on stuff like these covers!

Although I’ve yet to actually read any of these, I’m easily drawn in by mixtape covers because it just screams ‘music!!!’ and I love music books. Pretty sure I have all these on my GR to-read list! Awesome cover round-up, Cee!

I like them all but Way to go is my favorite. This post reminded me of my days on the bus to school, listening to my walkman. It is bizzare that it was only 10 years ago.

I love these! I would say my two favorites are Love is a Mixtape and Talking to Girls about Duran Duran.I feel like maybe the titles swayed me more than the actual illustrations of the cassette tapes though. I think I’ll definitely have to scope those two books out!
