You don’t need a camera to do the Love-A-Thon Bookshelf Challenge that’s specifically for BookTubers. You can do it too! I know I am. In post form at least. In this challenge, we ask that you pick books based on the color of their spine (listed below), and then follow the prompts.
RED |
---|
RED: Flip to page 119, and find the first line of the third paragraph. This line is the first sentence of a book about you.
“Do you need a longer lunch break?”
This sounds about accurate since I cherish food a lot.
ORANGE |
---|
ORANGE: Flip to page 3. The first name you see when you crack open the book is your book BFF.
Taylor Markham
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
I approve of this. Taylor is one of my favorite characters (from one of my favorite books ever).
YELLOW |
---|
YELLOW: Flip to page 185. The first body part mentioned is where your superpower is.
Face
The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
I don’t know what kind of superpowers my face will have, but I guess I can seduce people into doing things I want? (Or so I like to imagine.) What kind of superpowers can a face hold?
GREEN |
---|
GREEN: Flip to page 238. The first place mentioned is where your book is set.
The forest floor (in the Vale Woods) in Sorry-in-the-Vale.
Untold (The Lynburn Legacy #2) by Sarah Rees Brennan
Forests kind of scare me. (Have I ever told you how tree trunks freak me out?) It’s just so veiled with so many things inside it. I’ll be clutching onto Taylor as we walk through the forest.
BLUE |
---|
BLUE: Flip to page 45. The first name you see when you crack open the book is your book boyfriend/girlfriend.
Mikey Mitchell
The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
Whoa, Mikey? This was unexpected.
PURPLE |
---|
PURPLE: Flip to page 77. The first adjective used describes your book boyfriend.
Sour
The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma
This is a terrible adjective to describe Mikey, so it makes me laugh that’s the first adjective on page 77 of The Walls Around Us. Mikey is anything but that. ;)
PINK |
---|
PINK: Flip to page 94. The first name you see is your fictional nemesis.
Kami Glass
Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy #1) Sarah Rees Brennan
Kami Glass? My nemesis? No! This breaks my heart! She’s my girl! She’s my favorite human being character ever. What did we do to each other
BROWN |
---|
BROWN: Flip to page 216. The first object you see is your weapon of choice.
Lotus pipes
Endsinger by Jay Kristoff
An unconventional tool, but I guess I gotta make do with it.
BLACK |
---|
BLACK: Flip to pages 198, 228 & 146, and find one name on each page. These people will be your apocalypse squad.
Severin Unck (Radiance)
Victor Vale (Vicious)
Sophie Mercer (Hex Hall)
I actually picked one character out of three books with black colored spines, and I’m weirdly pleased by these characters even though I don’t know how I’ll fair in the apocalypse with them. Severin Unck’s a documentary filmmaker, and will most likely want to film the apocalypse. Victor Vale has the power to lessen our pain if we get injured, which can be good, but I think we’re still susceptible to succumbing to our injuries eventually. Sophie Mercer has powers that I shouldn’t say (because maybe spoilery), so that should help us in the long run. Wow, I’m being a bit negative. I just feel like we’d end up bickering especially when we’re all worrying and stressed about surviving the apocalypse.
WHITE |
---|
WHITE: Flip to page 28, and find the second sentence of the fifth paragraph. This is last thing you will ever say.
“I take three.”
Just One Year by Gayle Forman
I cannot even imagine why I would be saying this as my last words. Did somebody ask me how many tacos or books I would bring with me? Ha.

This is a really interesting and fun challenge. Thanks for making it a blogpost. I’m going to try it out.
Kristi Mejia says
How funny we both had the same red book! Not surprisingly I love love love food too haha. Great book choices!
Sierra says
I didn’t realize there were such different, yet amazing, challenges going on other blogging platforms for the Love-A-Thon. This is brilliant!
Thanks for hosting a sensational Twitter chat today. I know I enjoyed it and made many new blogging friends because of it. :) xxSierra (@sdavreads)

I am so participating in this challenge! It looks so much fun *runs off to find books* :D
Mel@thedailyprophecy says
I also have magical powers in my face. I have no idea what I can do with that either. Victor and Sophie are no bad choices. I would not be unhappy to see them on my team.
Kay @ It's a Book Life says
You could have laser eyes!! I also think you will go pretty far with that apocalypse squad! What a fun challenge! If I can find time between work today I am totally doing this. :D
Inah @ The Bibliophile Confessions says
This is a fun challenge! I think you could compel someone with your eyes like in The Vampire Diaries TV series haha! And I actually laughed with your answer for the adjective to describe your book boyfriend!
Alexa S. says
So, if Kami is my best friend – what does that make us? PLEASE DON’T SAY WE ARE MORTAL ENEMIES. *insert face of horror here* I WON’T STAND FOR THAT!! (P.S. I loved reading your challenge answers!)
