My desire to read in July was non-existent. I was just…stuck. I’ve been super busy with my sister visiting and a whole bunch of other things. I just hope my reading will be different (better) in August. I need it to be!
For those who do not know, Too Much TBR is a way to help me see which books I really need to read and tackle them. It helps a lot seeing a visual of the books on my TBR pile.
Let’s discuss what I read last month, and what I’m reading this month!
BACK IN JULY |
---|
In July, I had eight books I wanted to read. I only read four and a half. Not my best month. I spent majority of July in a major reading slump, and my sister was visiting so she
The four books I read were:
- Learning to Swear in America – It took me forever to read this book, not because it was boring, but because it made me think about Anton Yelchin.
- Arabella of Mars – Very disappointing book. It was so disjointed, and lacked worldbuilding and character development. Sometimes things came out of left field because the book spends a lot of time talking about ship life instead of other important things.
- The Trouble with Twins – So cute! This is a sweet Middle Grade story about a pair of twins. The parents are awful, but very ridiculous. It was fun and disturbing, just the way I like my Middle Grades. ;)
- Supergirl at Super Hero High – Wonder Woman, move over! It’s Supergirl’s time! I could relate to all of Supergirl’s insecurities and worries.
I DNFed When We Was Fierce because it was offensive (in terms of how inaccurate the vernacular is).
PRIORITY AUGUST READS |
---|
I already finished The Girl Who Drank the Moon (fairytale-esque, a witch, magic, and a young girl wanting to protect her family), and I love this Middle Grade book. Love. Love. Loveeeee.
Books I gotta read: Ghostly Echoes (the third in the Jackaby series! I can’t wait to learn more about Jenny Cavanaugh!), The Unbelievable FIB: The Trickster’s Tale (Norse mytholoy inspired! + Middle Grade!), and DC Comics Secret Hero Society: Study Hall of Justice (kid Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, & Diana Prince!)
August is also ARC August, which means I have arcs I want to tackle! Those arcs are: The Smaller Evil (yay Stephanie Kuehn!), It Looks Like This (I haven’t heard to much about this LGBTQ+ book so I hope I enjoy it), Sometimes We Tell the Truth (yes to a modernization of The Canterbury Tales), The Graces (I’m excited about witches, but I haven’t been hearing good things about this book :\), The Courage Test (a boy + his father+ the wilderness + Lewis and Clark), and Vassa in the Night (Inspired by the Russian folktale Vasilissa the Beautiful. Enchanted kingdom of Brooklyn. High society.)!
Note: All these books here do not account for other books that may slip into my TBR list (because mood reading will probably happen) nor of the comics I will be reading. I’m sure I missed other books I want to read this month too, but since I can’t remember, it must not be priority, right? Let’s hope I make a dent in my TBR books for June!

I hope August is a better reading month for you! Slumps are the worst. Study Hall of Justice is a very adorable and fun graphic novel! The Graces sounds really good. Enjoy!

I also have The Girl Who Drank The Moon, but I haven’t read it yet. July was a really productive reading month, but not the best one. I think I’m going to slow down my reading in August and focused more in reading some ARCs :)

Another month, another TBR! It sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you this August. Here’s to hoping you totally read a ton of books! I’m not officially joining in on ARC August, sadly, but I definitely plan to unofficially be reading a bunch of ARCs this month too ;)
