BOOKS IN HAND • What Customers Bought in September 2019

October 2, 2019 Comment : 1

You ever want to know what people are buying in bookstores? Well, it so happens that I work at one! During the last week of February 2018, I pondered about what type of post to make for “Books in Hand.” At first, I planned to discuss all the books customers came in asking for or buying, but that’s a bit too much because everybody came in asking for different books, and I didn’t remember all of them. My boss showed me a way to check our store’s best selling books, and I found out what we sold a lot of!

And that’s what this post is—seeing the top ten selling books of September 2019.

FICTION

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood | The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates | The Institute by Stephen King | It by Stephen King | There There by Tommy Orange

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens | A Better Man by Louse Penny | The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood | The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho | The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison | The Girl Who Lived Twice by David Lagercrantz | Dune by Frank Herbert | A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness | The Shining by Stephen King

KIDS/TEENS

Guts by Raina Telgemeier | Dog Man: From Whom the Ball Rolls by Dav Pilkey | Boy-Crazy Stacey (The Baby-Sitter’s Club Graphic Novel #7) by Ann M. Martin & Gale Galligan | Juliet Takes A Breath by Gabby Rivera | Best Friends by Shannon Hale

Dear Martin by Nic Stone | Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys | The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! by Mo Willems | Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell | Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas by Dav Pilkey

Pete the Cat: Trick of Pete by Kimberly & James Dean | The Last Kids on Earth and the Midnight Blade by Max Brallier | The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson #1) by Rick Riordan | Just Ask!: Be Different, Be Brave, Be You by Sonia Sotomayor & Rafael Lopez | The Tyrant’s Tomb (The Trials of Apollo #4) by Rick Riordan

NONFICTION

Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez | Bitcoin Billionaires by Ben Mezrich | The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz | The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck by Mark Manson | Becoming by Michelle Obama

Educated by Tara Westover | Permanent Record by Edward Snowden | The Odd 1s Out by James Rallison | Born A Crime by Trevor Noah | Sacred Woman by Queen Afua

How To Be An Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi | How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie | Hurricanes: A Memoir by Rick Ross | The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg | Burn After Writing by Sharon Jones

NOTES:

  • Every bookstore’s top-selling books will be different from each other. This list is just for my store.
  • The color reign of the top five fiction books have ended!
  • These books seem to be forever on the top-selling list: The Alchemist, anything Dog Man or Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, You Are A Badass, The Four Agreements, the 5 Love Languages, and Milk and Honey. (Don’t be surprise if you see these books here or in future “Books in Hand” posts. People love these books.)
  • I omitted the poetry list because it didn’t change from February, so it was The Sun and Her Flowers, Pillow Thoughts, and Milk and Honey.
Were there any surprises? What did you think would be a top-selling book? What books from this list have you read?

I see a lot of books on here that’s also becoming movies.

It’s amazing how the Simon Snow books are popular. The covers are so gorgeous.
