HOLY, MOTHER COVER! | Changes in Six-Gun Snow White

Inspired by What She Reads, Pure Imagination Blog, and Stacked.

I admit I’m a book cover snob. Who isn’t though?

Book covers are the first thing that attracts readers to a book. A good cover can draw someone is, just as a bad cover can easily draw someone away. It can essentially make or break a book. Holy, Mother Cover! is where I showcase the book covers that stand out (or make me cringe), and discuss cover changes.

(A big special thanks to Georgie at What She Reads for bestowing me this fabulous name and to Charlotte at The Simple Tales for creating the beautiful feature banner you see before you.)

COVER CHANGE: Six-Gun Snow White by Catherynne M. Valente

[row][column size=”1/2″]What do I think about the cover design? Gorgeous art, but very confusing.

The cover is a bit weird to me because it looks like a cowboy jumping over a naked black-haired lady offering a sacrifice. What is that supposed to convey? There are animals watching this scene, and—is the black-haired woman Snow White? Is this right after she wakes up from her slumber? It’s like I stepped into a performance piece midway in. I’m still confused at what I’m looking at, and I have so many questions. What is going on?

Would I buy this book based on the cover? Nah.[/column] [column size=”1/2″]What do I think about the cover design? Badass.

Snow White wielding a gun? Can I get a OH HELL YEAH?!

I love everything about this cover—the glint and the focus in her eyes, the details of the gun, the girl’s fingers already on the trigger, her outfit which is very Snow White-esque. She’s a girl who would not take your shit and would shoot you at first sight. I also love the font on this cover and the grunge effect that’s on the lettering.

And can we talk about the pun in the tagline? “A fully loaded fairy tale”? Are you kidding me? *claps*

Would I buy this book based on the cover? Hell yes. [/column][/row]

Final Verdict: The second cover because it’s just so badass.

Which cover design do you prefer? Would you buy the the first or the second?

The old cover also confused me. I like the art and how they coloured it, but the whole picture is really weird. I’m in love with the new design and yes, that is a fantastic tag line!

The saga press cover definitely would catch my attention mroe than the other one. Like you mentioend the art on the old cover is nice, but it’s just confusing what’s going on. The tag line on the newer cover definitely fits the cover and the model looks pretty badass.

The cover on the right says more about the book than the convuluted mess of cowboys, horses, and naked sacrifices does

I definitely agree that the second cover is better. The first cover is just awful!

I am curious about how the author will portray the Crow nation.

That new cover is FABULOUS. It’s EXACTLY what I would have wanted for this one, with respect to its actual title!
